  • What is the best way to clean a wound?

Shave any fur or hair from around the wound. If the wound is clean and fresh, it may be sufficient to use a saline solution. However, if the wound is dirty, you should carefully wash it with water at 38°C, using a hose for example. If the wound is very contaminated, you can also use chlorhexidine soap.

  • If I have a horse with a wound, what should I do whilst waiting for the vet?

Wash out the wound. If it is bleeding, place a dressing on the wound.

  • My horse has a wound above the hock – how can I get the dressing to stay in place and not slip or move?

There is a dressing called Snögg. It is a self-adhesive foam rubber plaster that can easily be used to bandage wounds in difficult places.

A selection of the Sorbact product range is available at your pharmacy. If you are a vet, you can simply order via your wholesaler.
